Canoeing in Spain
There is no
better way
to explore the River Ebro in Spain than by canoe and the River
Ebro Guest House is in the ideal location to do just that.
Using
Canadian ‘Old Town’ open canoes you will be able to access parts of
the River Ebro and the riverbank that are inaccessible from land. It's length
and width make it very safe and extremely easy to manoeuvre, requiring
very little effort, even when paddling upriver.
The scenery and
views from the river are breathtaking and you will see many Species of Birds in their natural habitat. In the shallow stretches
catfish will often be seen on the riverbed and large shoals of Carp will clearly be
seen.
Choice
of 4 launch sites.
Above
the Riba Roja Dam. This expanse of open water is ideal
for canoeing with many small inlets to explore.
Below the Riba Roja
Dam. This section of the river is slow flowing and
has many islands and inlets to explore. It passes by the Sebes Nature
Reserve and the many bird species nesting in that area.
Below
the Dam at Flix. Behind the River Ebro Guest House the
river is at its shallowest as it meanders southwards towards the
Mediterranean Sea. The river flows around the town of Flix which has a
ferry service providing a vital link with the surrounding agricultural
land.
Asco
Launch Site. For centuries cargo and passengers were transported
by river-barges, providing a vital link between villages and towns
dotted along its course. The many landing stages on this stretch of
river provide ideal locations to disembark and take in the scenery and
enjoy a picnic lunch.
The canoes
comfortably take 3 adults and are equipped with rod holders. Prior to
setting off you will receive practical instruction in safe handling
techniques and safety equipment is provided. Canoes are easy to handle
and are a pleasant way to explore the river. The daily hire charge
is for 7 hours canoeing and includes transport to your chosen launch
site, pickup and transport back to the River Ebro
Guest House.
